EPIA promoting Feed in Tariffs in Florida (3 February 2009 - Tallahassee, Florida - USA)
Date: 11-Jan-2009
After the implementation of the Federal Investment Tax Credit last quarter and in the very promising green stimulus plans of President Obama, Gainesville (Florida, USA) will be the first municipality to introduce a Feed in Tariff Policy in the United States.

The Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy (FARE), with support from the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) and the Alliance for Renewable Energy (ARE) has invited EPIA to participate to a conference on “Effective Renewable Energy Policies: Stimulating Job Creation, Long Term Investments, and Improving Energy Security” featuring discussions on Feed in Tariffs, Net Metering and Rebates on Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 in Tallahassee, Florida.

The focus of the conference is the deployment of renewable energy in Florida resulting in jobs and energy security. Experts from around the world and participants from various stakeholder organisations will discuss policies to stimulate vast investment in renewable energy to increase energy security and job creation in Florida. Building on Governor Crist’s vision of 20% renewables by 2020, this event will provide first hand experiences from Florida, other states and European countries on what policies are most effective in achieving renewable targets.

An EPIA delegation including Dr. Murray Cameron, Chief Operating Officer from Phoenix Solar and Vice-President of EPIA, Detlef Rogall, Corporate Strategy & Business Development from Phoenix Solar, Boris Schubert, President of Q-Cells International USA Corp., Dr. Sebastian Canadell, International Director and CEO of Isofoton distribution and Poly companies, Juergen Krehnke, President of SMA America, and Adel El Gammal, Secretary General of EPIA will attend the event and take the opportunity to meet with high level decision makers from Florida, such as the Governors Energy & Climate Office, the Public Service Commission, the Chamber of Commerce, and Legislative Committees interested in energy and economic development. The objective of these meetings is to better understand Florida as a potential market and begin formulating concrete plans, and to discuss with key officials on how they can replicate or even surpass the investment and jobs growth of solar power (both in speed and scale) experienced by Germany, Spain, and other European countries in recent years and ultimately, support the Gainesville initiative as a case model to be widely replicated throughout the United States.
