Brochure Renewable Energy House In January 2006, 11 renewable energy associations moved to the new Renewable Energy House, located in Rue d’Arlon 63-65. The Renewable Energy House is much more than an office for the leading renewable energy industry, trade and research associations: it is a model showcase on how to integrate renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in a monument-protected building in an urban environment.

Attitudes towards Energy : After the oil crisis of 1973 and 1979, energy policy could count on regular supplies and relatively stable prices. The situation has recently become extremely different with a much tighter energy market and significantly higher and more volatile prices. The Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs recently declared1 that “under our business as usual scenario, almost 70% of the Energy the European Union uses will be imported by 2030. Energy demand will rise by 1% to 2% per year and the share of fossil fuels in our energy supply could rise to almost 90% substantially increasing greenhouse emissions”.

A Vision for Photovoltaic Technology: Please find here the PDF version of final version of the Vision report by the Photovoltaic Technology Research Advisory Council (PV-TRAC)

In December 2003, the Photovoltaic Technology Research Advisor y Council (PV-TRAC) was formed under the auspices of Loyola de Palacio and Philippe Busquin (the former European Commissioners for Energy & Transport and Research). The Council’s vision report presents the current state of photovoltaics and looks ahead towards the year 2030. I note that photovoltaic electricity could become competitive with conventional utility peak power in southern Europe by 2010 and in most of Europe by 2030. By then photovoltaics could provide around 4% of electricity production worldwide.

European research spending for renewable energy sources: This publication aims to give a clear picture of the Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (RTD&D) spending in the field of renewables in Europe. Based on a questionnaire methodology, it provides data on the public and private sectors, on the national and EU spending and on the number of personnel involved in renewable energy RTD&D. This report also highlights issues such as the ratio between renewable research spending and GDP and the correlations between thepublic and the private spending for each Member State..
